MEET BAILEY
(An Adopted Beagle with Half a Tail)
Beatle Bailey by name, this Beagle was also adopted. Our son and his wife acquired Beatle at a local pet store. I am not around Beatle all that often, our son and his wife having moved to another state; but when we get together, Beatle or Bailey if you prefer has a very distinct personality. He is boisterous but not loud. His bark is a high pitched shrilled squeal... not exactly a normal Beagle howl... Well, it's almost human like in nature and very hard to describe. Not loud, not deafening... just different. He is independent but not stubborn. Actually, he has a very unusual personality and one that is hard to explain. He is a pushy little Beagle. He is intrusive and invasive of another Beagle's space and will acutally use his entire body to push or worm his way into both your life and your lap, he loving and needing a ton of affection and attention. He has a me-too... how dare you not include me type of personality.
Beatle likes high places and will prop himself up on the top ledge of our son's couch. The entire length of his body will be atop of that couch. But what is odd about his straddled posture is that he keeps himself perfectly balanced by having his left side on the inner back of the couch and his entire right side on the outer back of the couch. And once he is on his perch, he will stay there hours on end until his owner comes home, or, until something grabs his attention. More often than not it is the sound of another animal in their backyard be it another dog or a squirrel. In the photograph above, all three of our son's Beagles were responding to their neighbor's dog who was on the other side of that wooden fence.
Beatle Bailey, adopted one year after Barum's passing.
