Meet KC

(My Fearless Wonder: Beagle Hunter and Tree Climber)

KC

K.C. is the newest addition to our family of pets. This coco brown and white Beagle (who is by nature, a natural hunter, by the way), was born February 22, 2000; just eight months after his half brother Rusty (See and link to the first pix below). Yep, we went back to the same breeder all in the hopes of buying another Beagle just like Rusty, the lemon white Beagle puppy because we knew this Little Pocket breeder had the both sire and dam who passed on the lemon white colored gene. Or so we thought. The breeder you see had sold off the mother some months prior to our arrival. And so, K.C. was the nearest two tone Beagle we could find to match his brother Rusty. (See the third pix, below).

When we first layed eyes on K.C. he looked so sad. His fur was not even fully formed, he having wrinkles on his legs. He even had wrinkles around his eyes. He looked like he was tired, and he was. We found out a few days later that he had a serious case of round worms, an investation that he had gotten from his mom, or so they tell me. Here it is, some years later, and we can still tell when K.C. is tired because he will get that same old crinkle-cut between his eyes. And this can happen on a nightly basis because this little guy is exhausted by day's end from all the running around and tree climbing that he does. And believe it or not, even though his brother Rusty is ten pounds heavier, K.C. eats all his food. Truly an amazing animal.

Beagle Dog Photo of Two Puppy Brothers Rusty and K.C. are actually half brothers, sharing the same sire. The photo to your left was taken the day we brought K.C. home. It was a moment we had longed for. We were afraid that they might not get along; but as you can see, they became immediate buddies at first meeting. Notice how Rusty is coaxing him on by putting his paw around him. A sign of true friendship.

A Tree Climbing Beagle   A Tree Climbing Beagle

Hunting and tracking beagle. As you can see, K.C. has the unusual ability to climb trees; and yes, climb down also. Hence, I have nick named him, My Fearless Wonder. We assumed he was hunting and chasing squirrels. That is to say, until a few days ago when I happened to capture this little fella on film. Never having seen this animal before my husband and I can only speculate after looking through some encyclopedias that this is a woodchuck or a ground hog. (A ground hog who apparently was forced up the tree by our dogs, because I don't think they normally climb trees either. But on this particular day, it did.). In either case, K.C. does love his tree time and can spend several minutes on his branch just looking over our neighbor's fence. What he does not like, is having his nails clipped. Having seen the photos above, you will understand why.
